The World Steel Association, being one of the major world industrial associations, was founded on 19th of October, 1967. This non-profit organisation’s HQ is situated in Brussels, Belgium. In April 2006 it founded the second office in Beijing, China.

Russian Steel became a member of World Steel Association (Worldsteel) at the annual session on 3rd of October in Tokyo (Japan).

The decision on joining the international association of steelmakers was made at the General Meeting of Non-Profit Partnership Russian Steel, the majority of its Members are themselves worldsteel members. The Partnership will be represented in the association by Russian Steel’s Vice president, the Chairman of the Managing Committee, Eduard Potapov. He will also coordinate the interaction between the two organisations.

Joining worldsteel by the Russian Steel will improve coordination of efforts of Russian Steel Member companies in participating in all activities of worldsteel. It will also provide a platform for faster elaboration of unified position of Russian steel industry in the worldsteel projects.

The Russian Steel participated in several projects of worldsteel before entering the association in October. For instance, the Russian Steel made substantial contribution into the project “Russia 2020”, the report on which was presented at the worldsteel-44 Annual Conference in Tokyo.

The association organises meetings, forums and conferences on global issues and challenges for world steelmaking industry, promotion of steel products and steelmakers among consumers, industrial companies and mass-media, promoting world steel use and development of steel markets.

Worldsteel is engaged in the monitoring, analysis and forecast of tendencies in the metallurgical raw materials and steel markets. The association pays the major attention to global warming issues. In connection with these activities it develops the consolidated industrial approach for control and reduction of carbon dioxide emission. Worldsteel also promotes programmes on training and education of human resources for metallurgical companies and other important areas.
